Terms of Service
1. Who we are and what this is
Room8 is an app for people who share a home: a shared calendar and chores, a shared shopping list and inventory, group messaging, and a ledger for splitting household costs. It is operated by FELIX MANUEL PANTOJA and EDELSON GARCIA, two individual developers in MASSACHUSETTS, United States (“we”, “us”). Room8 is not a company; there is no business entity behind it, and correspondence should go to the contact details in Section 12.
By creating an account you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Room8, and at least 18 to agree to these Terms on your own behalf. If you are between 13 and 18 you may only use Room8 with the consent of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms for you. Your date of birth is checked at signup and registrations below the minimum age are refused.
3. This is a beta
What that means for your data
Room8 is distributed through TestFlight as a pre-release build. Features will change or disappear, bugs are expected, and data may be reset — including messages, household records and balances — as the app is developed. Do not use Room8 as the only record of anything you cannot afford to lose, financial or otherwise.
Apple’s TestFlight terms apply alongside these. Beta access can end at any time, and the beta itself will eventually stop working; TestFlight builds expire.
4. Your account
Accounts are created and authenticated through Supabase. You are responsible for keeping access to your email and device secure, and for everything done through your account. Tell us promptly at support@room8.xyz if you believe someone else has used it.
One person, one account. Do not impersonate anyone or register on someone else’s behalf without their permission.
5. Households and shared content
Room8 works by sharing. When you join a household group, other members of that group can see your profile, the events and chores you create, the items you add, the balances between you, and the messages you send in group conversations. Some of what you share is controlled by settings you choose — including which profile widgets are visible and whether your calendar shows event names or only busy times — and some is inherent to the feature.
Treat anything you put into a household as visible to that household. We cannot control what other members do with what they can see.
6. Money between roommates
Read this clause carefully
Room8 does not process, hold, transmit or settle payments. The finance features record what people say they owe each other, and display payment handles you choose to publish so a roommate can pay you somewhere else. No money moves through Room8, and we are not a bank, a money transmitter, an escrow agent or a payment processor.
Balances, debts and receipts are a shared record for your convenience. They are not an enforceable determination of who owes what, we do not verify amounts, and disputes between roommates are yours to resolve.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of everything you put into Room8 — messages, photos, receipts, lists and profile details. You grant us a limited licence to store, copy, transmit and display that content only as needed to run the service for you and the households you belong to. That licence ends when the content is deleted, except for copies in routine backups.
You are responsible for having the right to share what you upload.
8. Connected calendars
If you subscribe to a calendar feed, you confirm you are entitled to share it. We fetch it on your behalf on a schedule, store only the next several weeks of events, and show your household either the times you are busy or the event names — whichever you selected. Your calendar link itself is never shown to anyone else.
Optional usage analytics
Room8 uses Mixpanel for optional usage analytics to understand feature adoption and improve usability and reliability. Analytics is on by default, including before sign-in. You can turn it off using Share usage analytics during signup or in Settings without losing access to core features. Your analytics choice is separate from acceptance of these Terms and is saved on your device.
Our Privacy Policy and Usage Analytics page describe the information involved, device-specific preferences, retention and deletion requests.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, abuse or impersonate anyone;
- upload unlawful content, or content you have no right to share;
- attempt to access accounts, households or data that are not yours;
- probe, scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service;
- use Room8 to send bulk or unsolicited messages.
10. Ending your account
You may stop using Room8 and delete your account at any time from Settings → Danger Zone → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or that we are legally required to close, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents us.
Content you shared into a household — messages you sent, balances involving other people — may remain visible to that household after you leave, because it is also part of their record.
11. Availability, disclaimers and liability
Room8 is provided “as is”. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that reminders and notifications will always arrive — do not rely on it as the only reminder for anything that matters.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for disputes between roommates. Our total liability will not exceed the greater of (a) what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) US$100.
12. Changes, governing law and contact
We may update these Terms; material changes will be notified in the app before they take effect, and continuing to use Room8 afterwards means accepting them. These Terms are governed by the law of MASSACHUSETTS, United States.
Room8 has no business premises, so contact is by email: support@room8.xyz.
